McCain wants to regulate the net, ANY truth to this & how could that even be accomplished?

I mean it's physically impossable to impose restrictions on non physical entities, is it not? I'm NO computer wiz here but what is one gonna due to regulate what comes over the net, put sensoring devices in our satellites or tell servers what they can allow to go on the net? I mean the severs might not even be USA based, not under McCain law/jurisdiction, am I right on this? Is there even any truth to this McCain/regulation story, anybody else ever even hear of it? I could see a tax being imposed as the politicians(magicians!) of the demo/repubie party are always looking for another excuse to get into our wallets. International(UN) regulation, US of A regulation? Frankly, I would think regulation of a world wide net an impossable feat, but again, I'm no computer wiz! Anybody with the straight dope on this rumor, story, fact or what ever it is?

Its really funny that you mention this question on the very last day of when people can submit comments to the FCC on this very subject. Why did you not include the website for comments? You should be telling everyone to go to the freedomworks.org website and submit comments to the FCC against regulating the net.

McCain, backin April of 1999 was against regulating the net. Back then he said "Internet growth is due to fact that it hasn't been regulated and if the government is allowed to regulate, the Internet's full potential will never be realized." Now...has he fli-floped on the issue is the quesiton at hand...correct?

The answer here - unfortunately for all of us is - YES - he is trying to regulate it. The obvious goal is to stifle small blogs and websites that talk against the political machine. There is a real interesting story about his war agianst the blogs at : http://thinkprogress.org/2006/12/13/mcca...

While it may be almost impossible to regulate, the THREAT of something looming over ones head is enough to make people comply..the old fear factor again - I am the government you, you will comply or else...we shall assimilate - LOL

You can also find another interesting article on how McCain, the republicrat linked up with Fiengold the Democlan to introduce the bipartisan Campaign Reform Act back in 2002. The Libertarian website reason has the article at: http://www.reason.com/news/show/36322.ht...

So, if McCain was true to his word - this would not be an issue..but like most politicians...he speaks with a forked tounge. His actions speak much louder then his words and we shoudl do everything we can to STOP McCain in 2008 - Hey that sounds like a good website to visit as well - see: http://www.stopjohnmccain2008.com/...

Save yourself and this country a lot of trouble
Vote libertarian - Vote Ron Paul in 2008
If Neocons can't own it, they want to regulate it and suppress free speech.
havent heard that regarding mccain. There was a proposal of taxation on it but they let that die.
I am not sure what you mean by regulation though. But if someone wants it done bad enough anythign is possible.
I suppose if we legalized drugs and amnestied all the illegal immigrants it would free up enough law enforcement personnel to regulate the internet. If they demonstrate the same level of success at the new job that they did on the old, however, it would be a waste of time.

McCain looks as naive with this as Tipper Gore did with her crusade to clean up rock lyrics. Stupidity seems to cross party lines.
It can be done in this country only. I am afraid that this can be done and needs to be guarded against. It is a violation of the 1st amendment which Republicans have tromped on especially the president. If we let these Nazis take one precious right they will take them all.
I have heard of certain people wanting it, but thus far they have run into a lot of problems. The government wants control, but they don't want to spend money on this project without a tax increase for everyone regardless if they use the net or not.
McCain's proposal, called the "Stop the Online Exploitation of Our Children Act. Read the article.
