Marriage in order to obtain a passport?

Do you think it is ethical for someone to get married in order to obtain a passport.
Answers:
You ask about the ethical approach to this.
Well if both parties know and agree that they don't love one another and it is a marriage of convienence, so be it, no one is getting emotionally hurt.
If the person wishing the passport is being dishonest in their reasons for marrying then this is unethical, as the other party will be injured, rejected and is being lied to and used.
However it is illegal and wrong to marry solely to obtain a passport in some countries, as it is basically lying about the reason to be there.
Yes I know a lot of people are searching for a better life but they should be willing to work for the right to be accepted in their adopted country, not just because they may get a free ride (NHS, Social welfare , housing), especially in the UK where they also get a lot of support to obtain citzenship via legal means.
Its practiced by liars and cheats, they should do well as MPs.
Well no because marriage is a sacred special thing based on love and respect, any other reason is just a business deal surely and not legal in the eyes of either god or the law.?
No, I think it's wrong.
No, and immigration officers are constantly on the look out for cases of this kind. However, is it any more immoral than marrying someone when expecting to die shortly in order to secure a pension for him/her? Is it any more immoral than arranged marriages which are planned on grounds of expediency and how much each party can gain from the alliance?
no and it doesn't always grantee a passport either! guy i knew married a british girl on the thursday was arrested on the sunday and deported on the tuesday.. he never came back... his wife is dead now
There are millions of people getting married for the wrong reasons every year. One more reason surely doesn't make alot of difference.
p.s. Thanks for the kind words Plato my friend.
no i think it is wrong, you should only get married because of love, not for a passport, all the best
why not but at the same time you canbuild a cross-cultural family if there is understanding between the couple. in the beginning a passport but at the end a happy family maybe
