Lower minimum wage based on age?

For people under 18, is it fair for them to be paid a lower minimum wage than adults for doing the exact same thing? Most would argue that these people are not as experienced and do not support a family, but what about those, who for whatever reason, are unable to work or find work before they turn 18? Should these people be punished (by being made more expensive to hire than everyone else) for circumstances which may not even be their fault? Wouldn't it be better to set lower wages for people based on number of hours worked instead of their age? Is an inexperienced 18 year old really much different than an inexperienced 17 year old?
Answers:
Minimum wage should be used for anyone at any age. Minimum is the bottom and that's it! Any person hired for a particular job requireing performance of certain tasks should be able to perform the tasks and be paid the same as anyone else who can perform those tasks.
thanks
I think if you have a company you should hire nothing but teenagers because they think they are the smartest people in the world!
No! We also do not charge by age. Yes senior citizens get a discount but its not that much. So unless we start charging for things by age, then the pay should be the same for minimum wage the cost of living is still the same and equal for everyone.
There is no fair way to set a state or federal minimum wage that takes age and location into account. A 17 year old living in a rural community is going to do much better on minimum wage than a senior trying to supplement a meager Social Security check in a big city.
I would hate to turn 18. Company's would not hire 18, 19, 20 year olds then, they would only hire 17 and under. Not a good idea. Try again
